What you need to know
- A long day out: the train leaves the Railway Museum at 10am and gets back about 8pm; doors open at 9:15am and boarding closes at 9:50am
- Pick your route when you book: the cheapest ticket is just the train and a free day in Aranjuez, while pricier routes add a guided garden walk, the Chiquitrén road train, a boat on the Tajo or the Royal Palace
- Spring and fall weekends only, and seats are numbered, so book ahead; tickets can't be changed or refunded
About
A historic train that runs from the Railway Museum to Aranjuez, about an hour each way. Kids ride in wooden carriages built between 1914 and 1930, with slatted benches and open balconies at each end, while crew in early-1900s costume check tickets.
The middle of the day is free time in Aranjuez, with royal gardens, the palace and the river. On the ride home, staff hand out Aranjuez strawberries.
