Can kids try canoeing here?

Yes. The Madrid Canoeing Federation runs canoeing on the lake for ages 7 to 26, through the lake's municipal sports center.

Is it open on holidays?

Yes, every day of the year except Dec 24, 25 and 31 and Jan 1. Weekend prices apply on public holidays.

Is there a discount for grandparents?

Yes. Over-65s pay 70% less on weekdays before 2pm (not on holidays), with proof of age at the ticket office or a madridmayor.es card.

Rowing boats on El Retiro's big lake, dug in the 1630s for royal water shows and mock sea battles. Families take turns at the oars and row out toward the Alfonso XII monument, with its curved colonnade and horseback statue on the shore. Two of the 100 boats open at the back so a wheelchair rolls straight on.
