What you need to know
- Route runs Casa de Campo to Cibeles and back, by Cuesta de la Vega and Calle Mayor, so you can watch from any stretch of it
- Free and on the street, with no booking needed to watch the flock go by
- It can be called off: in 2024 the sheep stayed out of the city because of a bluetongue outbreak in livestock
About
Each fall, shepherds walk a flock of sheep from Casa de Campo into the city center, down Calle Mayor to Cibeles, where they hand the City Council a symbolic toll of 50 maravedíes. Kids get to see a real flock up close on streets they know from the car or the bus. It is on foot, so it suits kids who can wait for the flock to reach them.
