Do kids need ID to get in free?

Under-18 entry is free, but the garden asks you to show proof of age at the ticket desk, so bring ID for older kids.

Which entrance do we use?

Puerta de Murillo, on Plaza de Murillo opposite the Prado Museum. The gate on Calle Claudio Moyano is the research building, not the visitor entrance.

What time does the garden close?

It opens at 10am and closes at 7pm in October and 6pm in November and December. Greenhouses and exhibitions close 30 minutes earlier.

What else is there for kids with the same ticket?

The whole garden, the greenhouses and the Bonsai Terrace are included, so the pumpkins can be one stop on a longer walk.

About

Every fall the Botánico's gardeners set out about 30 kinds of pumpkin from the garden's vegetable plot, outside the Santiago Castroviejo greenhouse. Kids spot giant Big Max pumpkins, sponge gourds and the bottle-shaped pilgrim's gourd that children nickname the "canteen". It's look, don't touch, so it suits a curious kid more than one who wants to pick a pumpkin. The plot where they grew is a short walk away.
