• Book a time slot online: weekends and holidays from Oct 10 to Dec 31 need a ticket for one of three slots (8:00am, 11:30am or 3:00pm), with 35 cars each
• Car only this year: no bus and no entry on foot, so each ticket covers one car. Monday to Friday the road is restricted for tree work, so go on a weekend
• A day trip from Madrid, about 1 hour 30 minutes each way by car, including the forest road

A native chestnut forest in the Valle de Iruelas nature reserve. A 4.4 km loop from the El Regajo picnic area leads to El Abuelo, a chestnut tree more than 500 years old, through gold leaves in fall. Kids stay on the trail and leave the chestnuts for the wildlife. A forest fire hit the area in July 2026, so access is limited this fall.
