- Pair two that sit close together, Puerta del Sol, Plaza Mayor and the Royal Palace are a short walk apart
- Check the day before, many close on Mondays or keep short hours on Dec 24, 25 and 31
About
Belenes, the nativity scenes Spanish families build every Christmas, turn up all over the city in museums, palaces, convents and public buildings. The big ones are whole miniature towns, with rivers, mills and market stalls around the stable and hundreds of handmade figures. Kids get absorbed hunting for small scenes, like the washerwoman at the river. One or two in an afternoon is plenty.
